The Swales snail bit with movable rings has some similarities in action to the classic Pelham bit with the difference that the horse does not feel any pressure on the angle of the neck and head as there is no action on the cheek pieces of the bridle. It is the only lever action bit that does not put pressure on the horse's neck. Recommended for riders with an independent seat and soft hands, it is used with one rein (with or without a bridge) or directly with two reins. Combined with the double-jointed embouchure it is smooth on the inside of the mouth.
